This book presents a selection of reflections and perspectives on encounters between the Maasai and the Bible. The very presence of the Bible in traditional and also more modern Maasai contexts, and the very fact that the Maasai translation is indeed being read and also related to these interpretive contexts, is an invitation to the kind of reflections and perspectives offered herein. The Bible is a Maasai book! Partly in the sense that more than half a century has passed since the Bible was first published in the Maa language. Partly also because this translation and version— in its context-sensitive, red-colored cover— is today widely read in traditional Maasai areas, as a crucial piece of literature in a language context that has few other similar texts readily available.
